Plastic Injection Molding Services Vietnam for US Companies
A mold sourced from China now lands in the US with 25–145% Section 301 tariff on top of the tool price. VNcontX builds production-grade steel injection molds in Ho Chi Minh City — P20, H13, S136 — ships T1 samples in 15–25 days, and clears US customs at 0% tariff.
ISO 9001:2015 certified. No third-party brokers. No hidden markups.
Why US Companies Are Moving Molds Out of China
A single injection mold sourced from China now carries Section 301 tariffs at 25–145% on top of the tool price. On a $12,000 mold, that adds $3,000–$17,400 before the first part ships. Vietnam is not subject to Section 301. VNcontX molds enter the US with a zero-tariff bill of materials — every time.
| Factor | VNcontX — Vietnam | China Supplier |
|---|---|---|
| Section 301 Tariff | 0% | 25–145% |
| T1 Lead Time | 15–25 days | 20–35 days |
| Tool Life (H13 steel) | 1,000,000 shots | 500K–800K shots |
| DFM Review | Included — before PO | Often charged separately |
| Broker Layer | None — direct factory | Common with trading cos. |
| Mold Ownership Docs | Full transfer paperwork | Variable |
Beyond the tariff line, landed cost on Vietnam-sourced tooling runs 30–40% below equivalent China tooling once freight, duty, and lead time buffer inventory are factored in. The EVFTA also opens EU duty-free lanes if your supply chain extends beyond the US market.
Tooling Specifications — What We Build
VNcontX produces single-cavity, multi-cavity, family, and side-action molds. Tool steel is matched to shot life requirement, resin, and budget — not a one-size-fits-all recommendation.
| Spec | Standard | Precision |
|---|---|---|
| Tool Steel | P20 | NAK80 | H13 | S136 |
| Shot Life | 300,000+ | 1,000,000+ |
| Cavity Options | 1 – 4 | 1 – 16 |
| Shot Weight Range | 5g – 2,000g | |
| Insert / Overmolding | ✓ Supported | |
| T1 Lead Time | 20–25 days | 15–20 days |
| FAI Package | Dimensional report + CMM + material cert | |
Materials supported: ABS, PP, PC, PA66, POM, TPU — and blends. If your part requires PEEK, medical-grade PC, or glass-filled nylon, talk to an engineer first to confirm gate and cooling design before tooling kicks off.
How We Protect Your Tooling Investment
Mold tooling is a capital commitment. A failed T1 run or a mold with dimensional drift means weeks of lost production and re-cut cost. VNcontX runs a structured 10-step production pipeline — from DFM review through final CMM inspection — with one dedicated point of contact for each order.
Every order starts with a Design for Manufacturability review. Draft angles, wall thickness, gate placement, and ejector pin position are flagged before any steel is touched. Problems found in DFM cost zero. Problems found after T1 cost real money.
First-article samples ship with a full CMM dimensional report against your drawing. No part ships from T1 without your written approval. If dimensions are off, we re-cut at no additional charge.
The mold is your property. VNcontX stores it at our Bình Chánh District facility at no monthly charge for active production programs. You can request transfer of your tool at any time — full paperwork provided.
Preventive maintenance intervals are tracked per shot count — not calendar time. Parting line cleaning, ejector pin lubrication, and core/cavity inspection are documented after each production run.
What Every Order Includes
- DFM report before any tooling cost is committed
- T1 samples with full CMM dimensional report (Zeiss Contura + Mitutoyo)
- Material certification for resin lot used in production run
- Packing, labeling, and export documentation for US customs
- Direct air freight to LAX in 2–3 days or sea freight West Coast in 18–22 days
- ISO 9001:2015 quality system — no exceptions, no shortcuts
- One English-speaking point of contact from quote to delivery
Low-volume production programs — 500 to 10,000 pcs — are a primary focus. Prototype and bridge tooling in aluminum or soft steel is available for pre-production validation before committing to production-grade steel.
Why Ho Chi Minh City — Not Hanoi, Not Shenzhen
Most Vietnam injection mold manufacturers are based in Hanoi or the northern industrial zones — a 2-hour flight from HCMC and a different logistics chain entirely. VNcontX operates out of Bình Chánh District, Ho Chi Minh City. Cat Lai Port — Vietnam’s largest container terminal — is under 25km from our facility. Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport is under 20km.
Air freight HCMC → LAX: 2–3 days ·
Sea freight HCMC → US West Coast: 18–22 days
No buffer warehouse. No freight forwarder markup. Your mold ships direct from our floor to your receiving dock.
Southern Vietnam also carries lower industrial land and labor costs than the Hanoi corridor — an advantage that passes through to tooling price without affecting steel grade or production quality. If your supply chain extends to Australia or the EU, HCMC is the correct node: air freight to Sydney runs 3–4 days, and the EVFTA removes EU import duty on goods manufactured in Vietnam.
