DFM Review Absent Parts run as-drawn. Manufacturability issues surface at inspection or delivery. Pre-Production Standard DFM analysis before the first chip falls. Tolerance conflicts, surface finish callouts, material substitution flagged in writing before production starts.
03 — Tariff & Trade Advantage

Tariff Structure: Vietnam vs. China (US Import)

Section 301 tariffs on Chinese goods: 25% standard, up to 145% on strategic categories. Vietnam is not on the Section 301 list. For US-bound precision parts, this is typically a 30–40% landed cost advantage versus China-sourced equivalents.

🇻🇳 Vietnam — VNcontX 0%

Section 301 tariff rate on Vietnam-manufactured goods entering the US. Parts ship from Cat Lai Port, HCMC. Air freight to LAX: 2–3 days. Sea to US West Coast: 18–22 days.

🇨🇳 China — Typical Shop 25–145%

Section 301 tariff range on Chinese precision parts entering the US. Applied at customs on top of invoice value. Adds 30–40% to landed cost vs Vietnam on comparable parts.

🇪🇺 EU — EVFTA 0%

EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement eliminates import duties on most manufactured goods from Vietnam to EU member states. Effective for qualifying HS codes on CNC parts, molded components, and sheet metal assemblies.

04 — Technical Proof Points

Six Specific Reasons Procurement Teams Choose VNcontX

Verifiable technical facts — not marketing claims — that engineering and procurement managers ask about when evaluating Vietnam contract manufacturing.

01 — Machine Capability

DMG Mori 5-Axis + Mazak QT — Not Commodity Equipment

Production runs on DMG Mori 5-axis machining centers and Mazak QT turning centers — Tier-1 CNC platforms used by aerospace and medical suppliers globally. Parts with compound-angle features, tight-tolerance bores, and complex surface profiles are run in-house, not handed to a subcontractor with a 3-axis knee mill.

02 — Metrology

Zeiss Contura + Mitutoyo CMM — Data Ships With the Parts

Dimensional inspection runs on Zeiss Contura and Mitutoyo CMM units, calibrated and traceable. The CMM report is a standard deliverable on every first article — not an add-on. True position, flatness, cylindricity, profile: reported with actuals, not pass/fail stamps only.

03 — Single-Site

One Factory. Full Visibility. No Subcontracting Risk.

CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding — all at the Bình Chánh facility. The factory that quotes your order is the factory that machines it. No broker layer, no undisclosed subcontractor, no quality gap between quote and production.

07 — FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions procurement managers and engineering teams ask before placing their first order with a Vietnam manufacturer.

Is Vietnam subject to US Section 301 tariffs on manufactured goods?
No. Section 301 tariffs are levied specifically on goods manufactured in China. Vietnam is not included in Section 301 lists. Parts manufactured at VNcontX in Ho Chi Minh City enter the US at 0% Section 301 tariff rate. Standard US MFN import duties apply depending on HS code — typically 0–5% for precision machined parts. This represents a 25–145% cost advantage versus China-sourced equivalents on the tariff component alone.
What certifications does VNcontX hold? Is ISO 13485 available for medical parts?
VNcontX holds ISO 9001:2015 certification covering all production processes. We do not hold ISO 13485 certification. For medical device components that require ISO 13485 documentation from the manufacturer, we confirm this limitation before any order is placed — we do not accept orders where we cannot meet the stated regulatory requirement. For Class I device components and non-regulated medical plastics, our ISO 9001:2015 QMS, 100% FAI, and full documentation package is typically sufficient. See our medical injection molding page for detail.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for CNC machining and injection molding?
For CNC machining, there is no formal MOQ — single prototype parts are accepted. For injection molding, tooling must be quoted and built first; production runs typically start from 500–1,000 pieces. Prototype (soft) tooling is available for low-volume validation runs of 50–500 pieces. For sheet metal fabrication, single-piece prototypes are accepted with a 5–10 day lead time.
What file formats do you accept for quoting, and how long does a quote take?
We accept STEP, IGES, SolidWorks (.sldprt), DXF, DWG, and PDF technical drawings. STEP + dimensioned PDF is the preferred combination. Quotes with DFM review are returned within 24 hours for standard CNC and sheet metal parts. Injection mold tooling quotes take 2–3 business days. Submit files at vncontx.com/request or email directly to duc.nguyen@vncontx.com.
How do you handle tolerances tighter than ±0.005mm on critical features?
Features requiring ±0.003mm or tighter are flagged during DFM review and confirmed for feasibility before order acceptance. Precision features are machined on DMG Mori 5-axis centers with in-process gauging, then verified on Zeiss Contura CMM. We do not accept tolerances we cannot reliably hold — if a feature is at the edge of capability for the specified material, we say so in writing and propose an alternative approach (ground finish, EDM, or tolerance relaxation on non-functional surfaces).
