Why Plastic Parts Buyers Are Moving Away from China

Section 301 tariffs on Chinese-made plastic components currently sit at 25–145% depending on HTS code. That tariff lands on your landed cost — not the factory price. A mold that costs $8,000 in Shenzhen can carry $2,000–$11,600 in duty before it reaches your warehouse.

Vietnam is Section 301 tariff-exempt. Parts and tooling manufactured here ship to the US under standard MFN rates. Combined with Vietnam’s labor cost base — roughly 30–40% below China on a comparable-spec basis — the shift produces a meaningful landed cost reduction without compromising tolerance or material standards.

Under the EVFTA, Vietnam-manufactured plastic parts also ship to EU member states at preferential or zero-rated duty. Australian buyers benefit from AANZFTA frameworks. Supply chain concentration risk is real — we have buyers who reduced their China plastic parts exposure by 60% and replaced it with a single-source relationship from HCMC.

Injection Molding Materials — In-House Stock

We process the following materials from verified resin suppliers with full material traceability documentation included in every shipment:

ABS
General purpose housings, enclosures, consumer product shells. Good surface finish, paintable, electroplateable.

PP
Living hinges, containers, packaging components. Chemical resistance, low density, fatigue resistance.

PC
Optical clarity, impact resistance. Enclosures requiring UV stability or transparency. Needs controlled drying.

PA66 / PA6
Structural components, gears, brackets. Excellent wear resistance. Available glass-filled (GF15, GF30).

POM (Delrin)
Precision moving parts, bushings, valve bodies. Low friction, tight tolerancing, moisture stable.

PEEK
High-performance structural and medical-grade parts. 260°C continuous service. Requires specialized processing parameters.

TPU
Flexible overmolding substrate, seals, grips. Shore A 60–95. Bonding to ABS, PC, and PA substrates.

ABS-PC Blend
Higher impact and heat resistance than standard ABS. Common in automotive interior trim and tech hardware.

Filled Grades
GF, CF, mineral-filled variants available on request. Affects shrink rates — DFM review required before tooling.

What Buyers Ask Before Placing an Order

Can you hold tight tolerances on filled-grade materials like GF30-PA66?
Filled grades shrink differently than unfilled resins and require gate location, cooling channel layout, and pack pressure dialed in during DFM — not after T1. Every RFQ with a filled-grade specification goes through our DFM review before tooling is cut. We provide a shrinkage and warpage risk report as part of the quoting process at no charge. Our standard cavity tolerance for production molds is ±0.05mm; precision molds achieve ±0.02mm on critical dimensions.

Do you own your molds or subcontract tooling to another shop?
Our mold base fabrication, EDM, and cavity machining are handled in our facility in Bình Chánh District, Ho Chi Minh City. We do not subcontract tooling to third-party shops. This matters for lead time control — when a tooling issue appears during T1, we resolve it in our own machine, not in another factory’s queue. Mold ownership stays with you as the buyer; we hold the mold in our facility for ongoing production runs.

What’s your process for cosmetic surface requirements like texture and gloss?
Cosmetic requirements need to be specified at the RFQ stage — not after tooling is cut. We support SPI finish grades (A1 through D3), VDI 3400 texture references, and custom textures via EDM spark erosion. If you require a specific gloss level or grain texture, send us your reference standard (or a physical sample) with your CAD files and we’ll quote the mold finish accordingly. Post-mold surface treatments — bead blast, paintable finish, electroplate prep — are documented in the production order.

How do we verify part quality before shipment from Vietnam?
Every first article ships with a full CMM dimensional report, material certification, and process parameter log. For ongoing production, we apply our Zero-Defect Protocol: in-process Cpk tracking (≥1.67 target), 100% critical dimension check on first and last cavities per shift, and AQL 2.5 sampling for visual inspection. You receive a pre-shipment inspection report before we release freight. Third-party inspection is available on request. Our OTD rate for confirmed orders is 98.4%.

What if I need both machined and injection molded parts from the same supplier?
VNcontX runs CNC machining and injection molding under one roof. If your assembly includes both a machined metal bracket and a plastic housing — common in electronics, medical devices, and industrial equipment — we quote and produce both. One PO, one point of contact, one shipment. See our injection molding pillar page for the full capability overview, or browse ABS injection molding and overmolding & insert molding for specific process pages.

Getting a Quote: What You’ll Need

For custom injection molding orders, send us a 3D CAD file (STEP or IGES preferred) and your material + finish spec. If you have a 2D drawing with critical tolerances called out, include that too. We’ll return a DFM feedback note and tooling quotation within 48 business hours.

No CAD file yet? Use our Technical Briefing form — describe your part geometry, material requirements, and estimated annual volume and an engineer in HCMC will contact you to scope the project before drawings are finalized.

Not sure whether injection molding or another process is the right fit for your volume and tolerance requirements? Our injection molding vs 3D printing decision guide covers the break-even analysis, material trade-offs, and process selection framework in detail.

  • STEP / IGES / SolidWorks / CATIA / Parasolid files accepted
  • DFM review included at no charge — wall thickness, draft angle, parting line
  • Quote includes tooling cost + per-part price at stated volume
  • Tooling payment: 50% upfront / 50% on T1 approval
  • T1 approval required before mass production release
  • NDA available on request before file sharing
